The Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science is delighted to launch a new series of Short Courses, offering in-depth training across key areas of demographic research.
These courses will cover topics such as data analysis, demographic modelling, and the application of specialised demographic software. Led by leading experts in the field, the programme is designed for researchers, students, and professionals seeking to strengthen their skills in demographic science. Each course blends lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and research presentations to create a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. Courses run for five days and are hosted at the historic Nuffield College, Oxford. Each day includes:
- 9:30:12:30 -- Three hours of lectures
- 12:30-13:30 -- Lunch and networking
- 13:30-15:30 -- Two hours of practical exercises
- 15:30-16:30 -- A presentation from a distinguished researcher, directly linked to the day’s topics
Most courses have no formal prerequisites, though familiarity with basic demographic concepts and statistical methods is recommended.
Participants will receive accreditation badges upon completion. There are no summative assessments. Full details are available on our [Short Courses] page. The series will begin with a specialised course on The Demography of Fertility (8-12th December 2025), followed by broad a introductory course, Python for Health, Economic, and Social Sciences (16-20th March, 2026). Future offerings include LLMs for Health and Social Science Research (with an emphasis on Demographic Data Science) and Bayesian Methods for Migration Analysis. Additional substantive and methodological courses will be announced in the coming months. An online equivalent of each course is also planned, so please check our website regularly for updates. We look forward to welcoming you to a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
