Jiaxin Shi

MPhil
Postdoc Researcher, University of Wisconsin-Madison (LCDS DPhil student 2020-2023)

I am a DPhil student in Sociology at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science. My research interests lie in the intersection of population health, ageing and gerontology, and social inequality, with a particular interest in the causes and consequences of mortality. My ongoing research projects examine (1) measurement issues in lifespan inequalities (across individuals as well as between socioeconomic groups); (2) inequalities in post-work (retirement) lifespan in the contemporary United States; (3) the impact of mortality differentials on lifetime pension inequalities in Sweden.

I am also affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Germany. Prior to my DPhil study, I attended the European Doctoral School of Demography, at the MPIDR and the University of Southern Denmark. I received my MPhil in Social Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and BAs in Journalism and English from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
