Dr Thomas Rawson, Senior Researcher at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, has been appointed a Fellow of JUNIPER (the Joint UNIversities Pandemic and Epidemiological Research network), joining five other early-career researchers in the scheme's 2026 cohort. The two-year fellowship supports emerging epidemic modellers in building research leadership, expanding cross-institutional collaborations, and developing science communication skills.
Thom's research examines how demographic change — including population ageing and shifting household structures — shapes epidemic transmission dynamics and healthcare demand, sitting at the intersection of infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling, and demography. As a JUNIPER Fellow, he will lead research initiatives across the partnership, host a workshop next year at the intersection of epidemiology and demography, and contribute to its strategic planning alongside network co-leads Professors Julia Gog and Matt Keeling.
