We are pleased to welcome Sebastián Villamizar Santamaría, editor at Nature Cities, for an upcoming LCDS seminar on publishing social science research within the Nature Portfolio family of journals. The seminar will take place in the Butler Room at Nuffield college from 14:00-15:30.
In this session, Sebastián will explore how social science research fits within Nature journals, offering insight into the types of contributions they seek, the formats and scopes they accept, and how the submission and review process works in practice. The talk will be particularly valuable for researchers interested in reaching interdisciplinary audiences and navigating high-impact publication venues beyond traditional social science outlets.
Abstract
How do social sciences fit in Nature journals? In this talk, Nature editor Sebastián Villamizar-Santamaría (he/él) will go over the process of publishing papers in these journals, the scope and format types they accept, and how the submission process works.
About the Speaker
Sebastián Villamizar Santamaría is a senior editor at Nature, handling social sciences manuscripts. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the City University of New York, a MA in Geography from Univesidad de los Andes and a BA in Sociology from Universidad del Rosario.
During his doctoral studies, Sebastián was awarded fellowships at the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies, where he contributed to and supervised multiple research reports as part of the center’s Latino Data Project—an experience he describes as “very instrumental and supportive” to his academic development.
