The LCDS will host its first seminar of term on Thursday 1st October at 2pm at Nuffield college. Bringing 10 years of experience from across the publishing industry, Joe will discuss some of the common points of confusion and hiccups early career researchers face as they look to build a publication record.
From navigating the myriad journals to choose from and what their indexing means, setting expectations at submission, as well as considering what 'impact' really means for your research, there's so much to keep in mind for scientists looking to publish their work. And of course there will be a little AI chat.
Even if you're a veteran researcher, this talk peels back some of the mystery behind how publishing works and your questions are encouraged.
About Joe:
With a passion for connecting with scientists and promoting Open Science principles, Joe has worked at a number of publishers across various role. He is currently a Journal Development Manager at PLOS. In all his roles he has been motivated by helping scientists understand a complex ecosystem of institutional and economic pressures - whether it’s understanding indexing, how institutional deals work, what goes into an APC, or anything else. As an industry so closely tied to the career of researchers, this historically opaque relationship needs a revisit. Joe wants to share this unique lens with the people who can benefit most from it; the researcher.
